Pre-retirement workshop deals more with practical issues of life. Consequently, the presentations which will be led by very experienced facilitators will be highly participatory. Activities for the four weeks will follow the sequence below:
WEEK ONE
A total of eight (8) presentations will be made. One for the first day, (the one day lecture on the first day is designed to accommodate opening ceremony and the initial settling-in of participants), two presentations each for the subsequent three (3) days and one for the fifth (5) day (the one lecture on Friday is to accommodate evaluation of work done in week one, take home assignments and build expectations for the second week).
Each of the sessions will last for three (3) hours, broken down into:
- a) One and half hours of presentation
- b) 20 minutes of discussions, questions and answers
- c) 30 minutes of syndicate work/case studies
- d) 40 minutes of presentation and take home information
WEEK TWO
Participants will be addressed by various self employed and practicing professionals and entrepreneurs in the following areas of economic activities:
- a) Agriculture and Agro-allied Venture
- b) Educational and Management Consulting
- c) Portfolio Management
- d) Hospitality Management
- e) Real Estate Management
The essence of this interaction is to expose participants on the prospects and challenges associated with each of the above areas of business activities; so that they can sincerely evaluate them against their capability and make up their mind on which way to go. Thereafter, trainees are expected to commence work on their business plan.
WEEK THREE & FOUR:
Participants will be attached to selected businesses and will work under the guidance of business coaches to learn the practical aspects of their business interest. The objective of this exposure is to build their momentum, sharpen their reflexes and ready them to kick start and run such enterprises after retirement.
Within this period, participants will be expected to commence the development of their business plans. The outcome will be a practical manual designed to guide them in the development of their own business enterprise(s). It will also be used to assess credit if need be. This will be done under the guidance of consultants and business coaches.
