Chief (Mrs.) Mabel Ifeanyi Ozumba

Chief (Mrs.) Mabel Ifeanyi Ozumba was born in Kano and hails from Anambra State. She attended Ibo Union Primary school, Kano, thereafter went to St. Catharine’s Girl’s Secondary School, Nkwerre in Imo State.

In 1972 she gained admission and proceeded to the then University of Ife, Ile-Ife in Osun State (Now Obafemi Awolowo University). In June 1976 she graduated in Education (B. Ed.) with honors in English. She later in 1982/83 academic session obtained Master’s Degree in Educational Management from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

Chief Mrs. Ozumba started her career as an English teacher in Federal Government College, Enugu. In 2005, she was appointed Interim Project Manager for African Development Bank sponsored project on Skills Training and Vocational Education. Mrs. Ozumba ensured the kick-off of the project by accomplishing all stipulated conditions precedent to the loan disbursement.  She became Acting Director Basic and Secondary Education Department, Federal Ministry of Education in 2006 and was confirmed a Director in 2008. Mrs. Ozumba held many important positions in the course of her career. She demonstrated great passion and commitment in her service delivery by undertaking responsibilities with corresponding zeal. The 104 Federal Government Colleges were under her supervision. She was the Chief Federal Government Nominee to West African Examinations Council (WAEC), a position she held twice until she retired from the Civil Service in 2012. She represented the Honourable  Minister of Education in some Governing  Boards including Federal University of  Agriculture,  Abeokuta, University of Abuja, Michael Okpara University of  Agriculture,  Umudike, Umuahia and National Business and Technical  Education  board,(NABTEB ) Benin. She was an Honorary Consultant, African Refugee Foundation (AREF).

Chief Mrs. Mabel Ozumba enjoyed international sponsorship by British Council, World Bank and African Development Bank for short courses and Workshops. Countries visited include UK (University of Leeds, 1990) Highbury College, Portsmouth, Kilmarnock Technical College, Troon, Scotland, 1998, as well as Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops and Vancouver both in Canada. Other countries visited include Singapore, Dubai, South Korea, India, Tunisia, Rwanda, South Africa, Mozambique, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gambia, Ethiopia, and Senegal.

Having gathered experience from all these interactions, Mrs. Ozumba acquired life-long skills that she brings on board in her dally activities today. She is articulate, dependable, a team player with a teachable spirit. She has a strong command of oral and written communication skills. Her integrity is beyond questioning. In summary, Chief (Mrs.) Ozumba can be said to be ruthlessly effective and efficient, she sometimes becomes restless if otherwise underutilized. She is at the moment a pioneer member and the only female member of the Governing Council of the Institute of Retirement Management, Nigeria (IRM).
